From discovering a critical problem to creating a sustainable solution for African schools
The Discovery
During visits to boarding schools across Kenya, we witnessed firsthand the dangerous and costly reliance on firewood. We saw staff risking their health daily, schools spending fortunes on alternative fuels like lpg (liquid petroleum gas), and resources being diverted from education.
The Realization
We understood that firewood was more than just a cost issue , it was a safety, health, and operational crisis affecting the entire educational ecosystem. The solution had to address all these dimensions.
The Turning Point
Watching staff struggle with firewood at 5 AM risking their health ,and spending a lot of time preparing firewood, we knew we had to create a sustainable alternative. This moment solidified our commitment to transforming school energy systems.
The Solution
After more than a year of intensive research and programs, we developed the AfriBio solution: automated systems that safely convert school waste into clean cooking gas, eliminating firewood dependence.
